Trending: Macrame Decor for Your DFW Wedding in 2017

October 30, 2017

mQRP2eU

For those of who don’t know, macramé is a form of textile produced using “knotting,” as opposed to methods like knitting or weaving. (How fitting for your wedding ceremony, right?!) This art technique dates back to 13th-century Arabic artists (yes, really!), but it’s really known for its popularity in the ’70s; think back to the days of lava lamps and shag carpet. And in 2017, we’re more than happy to report, this groovy trend is officially back in style—wedding style, that is.

After consulting wedding Pinterest boards, real-wedding features, and our favorite Instagram accounts, we’ve seen macramé (brilliantly!) used in ceremony altars, hanging chandeliers, escort-card displays, and table settings. And that’s not to mention the macramé imitations we’ve seen created in cake icing.

Basically, macramé is the material of the moment. So how do you re-create this trend for your wedding day? First, start by envisioning your wedding style. If it’s tropical, casual, or boho, this trend will most likely coordinate well with your other design elements.

If it’s black tie or glam, probably not so much.

Next, think about where you want to display this look—whether it’s behind you as you exchange vows or front and center at your reception. And finally, consider adding a little something extra to your decided display! Macramé is typically seen in a neutral cream color, so it’s easy to add pops of color in the form of palm leaves, bright florals, or even natural wood.

  • Put this trend front and center by designing your ceremony structure around it. This backdrop is particularly special thanks to the varying lengths of fabric. It’s perfectly imperfect, don’t ya think?!
  • Create a statement backdrop that your guests can snap photos in front of! A macramé folding screen does the trick when accented with palm fronds and tropical flowers.
  • A couple of fun hanging fixtures basically scream for a cool dining setup below. We’re envisioning a low table, colorful pillow cushions, and loads and loads of candlelight.
  • Embrace ivy-lined walls by hanging potted plants from macramé. We love that you can see the pink and orange flowers—and mini terra-cotta pots—peeking out from beneath the holes.
  • Have you ever considered a Woodstock themed wedding? Yep, that’s right. We’re obsessed with a textured cake, plus you can arrange for macramé hanging off its bottom tier!
  • Embrace macramé’s natural beauty by displaying an intricate work. Think a pretty display, you can also top it all off with a forest backdrop or bundle of roses in the top left corner.
  • Having a Cancun wedding? Surprise your guests with their table assignments hanging from cream-colored macramé, which is decorated with peach roses and deep-burgundy astilbes.

Best Green Hanging Installations Ideas for Your DFW Wedding

October 20, 2017

The Empire Room - Dallas Event Venue

Take your wedding reception to new heights by hanging décor up above! From greenery garlands to statement light fixtures covered in vines, we love seeing how simple greenery can elevate (quite literally!) your wedding-day reception (or even ceremony) décor.

And better yet: it’s actually an easy way to save. The thing about greenery is that is comes in bundles, which means you’re not paying per stem (like you would be doing with those pretty peonies you’ve been dreaming about). Plus, you’ll find that greenery (whether its eucalyptus, vines, or big ole’ leaves) goes a long way in covering space—and thus, lowering your budget.

Beyond the price tag, we’re obsessed with this greenery wedding trend because it allows you to bring the outdoors inside, even if you’re marrying somewhere without a window in sight.

In order to create an indoor-outdoor feel, simply hang pretty garlands, delicate vines, or leafy branches from the ceiling of your space. You can do so with clear wire—just ask your venue coordinator about what you’re allowed to hang from and how much weight it can hold—or attach cut branches to existing fixtures, like the rafters in your barn or the crystal chandeliers in your ballroom.

And funny enough, even though you’re adding bundles of stuff to the room, you may find that the space feels larger. Why? It’s simple: The statement installation draws everyone’s attention up above. (It is something pretty to look at after all!)

And as if that’s not enough to get you going, we went ahead and did the work for you—keep scrolling to see examples of how you can make your greenery-inspired décor a cut above the rest.

  • A head table feels even more intimate, thanks to the greenery and hanging tea lights up above.
  • Now this is the cool way to hang greenery! On-trend wreaths are filled with flowing ferns, tulips, and calla lilies.
  • Greenery garlands are simple but impactful, especially with the juxtaposition between the green up above and the copper chairs below. (We also love the garlands on the table, too!)
  • Make sure your guests are having a great time at dinner under the statement lights. Seriously, forget the stars when you have these!
  • Again, hanging tea lights are mixed with a greenery installation. The greenhouse venue really lets the hanging greens stand out, don’t ya think?!
  • For a new take on suspended greenery, incorporate it with your escort cards. Consider mini escort cards pinned to wreaths that hang (with invisible wire!) from the top of a white tent.
  • Make that first dance photo op all the more special with a circle of greenery front-and-center.
  • Wispy olive branches are the perfect match for a low-key reception setup.
  • Make your chandelier the center of attention by hanging string lights from it. It looks perfect in a tent—and just wait until it gets dark outside!
  • When you have high ceilings, you have plenty of room to hang a wooden trellis installation, that’s decorated with a variety of pretty, textured greens.
  • Hang a greenery installation at the entrance to your beautiful, rustic venue—plus, look how it doubles are the ceremony backdrop.

Everything You Need to Know For Dallas Wedding Guests Transportation

October 15, 2017

Get away Car

You’ve got a party bus/limo/driver for the wedding party and a vintage Rolls Royce ready for the getaway, but have you thought about how your guests will get to and from your celebration?

Some venues are easy, especially in big cities with taxis or public transportation—but if your venue is remote or you don’t have space for everyone to park, it may be up to you to make sure your guests make it. Concerned about the costs and logistics? Fear not! Our experts are here to help you plan out transportation for your wedding guests.

When is it Necessary to Provide Transportation?

Don’t write off guest transportation before you’ve really considered it, especially if you’re having a destination wedding. Asking your guests to pony up $20 (or more!) to get to your reception is a lot when you consider the expense of travel and hotel rooms that they’ve already paid for.

If your wedding is in an area where taxis or buses simply aren’t available, or aren’t reliable, it can also cause extra headaches and may result in a bunch of late guests. And don’t forget to think about parking!

If it’s not available at your venue or is expensive, that’s something else your guests will have to deal with. In any of these instances, it’s worthwhile to look into a shuttle bus service. It will make sure your guests arrive on time, won’t require anyone to park, and will also help get everyone home safe.

A lot of car services like Uber are super helpful when it comes to getting your guests where they need to go, and allows you to pick up all, or part of the transportation costs.

How Should We Handle the Logistics?

If you have a room block at one or two hotels, make those the pick-up and drop-off points for your shuttles. Once you’ve determined the schedule with your shuttle company, pass it on to your guests!

Make a page on your wedding website letting guests know when shuttles will depart, and ask the concierge at the hotel to post a sign in the lobby, as well. Handing out welcome bags? Add the schedule to your welcome note. And don’t forget to tell guests when shuttles will be available to depart.

If you have guests who are older or who have hired babysitters for the evening, they’ll appreciate knowing when they’ll be able to head home if needed. For guests who choose to stay at other hotels, let them know if they can drive on their own, or if they should park at the shuttle pick-up areas to join the rest of your guests for the ride.

What if We Can’t Afford a Shuttle?

If it simply isn’t in your budget, it’s still important to consider how your guests will get to and from your wedding. Provide driving directions and estimated drive times, as well as information about local taxi services and ride-share companies.

Let them know if parking is available at the venue or nearby, and whether they will need to pay for valet service (which is something you may want to cover, as it will cost less than the shuttles would). Is space limited?

Encourage car-pooling among friends or family members. To make sure your guests all get home safe, consider putting a sign with local taxi company numbers on the bar and near the door so a guest who has had one too many glasses of champagne can get a ride.

Dallas Styled Shoot Venue | The Empire Room

The loving attention to detail that brides and florists put into wedding flowers adds a magical touch to the big day. The first step in floral planning is determining a wedding flower budget. We talked to wedding planners and florists to answer the question “How much do wedding flowers cost?” Read on to better understand the average cost of wedding flowers, complete with floral budgets from real brides and expert tips on how to save big on flowers.

The Average Cost of Wedding Flowers

The average cost of wedding flowers can vary widely, depending on how many flowers you need, the types of flowers you choose, and whether or not they’re in season. Though no wedding flower cost is set in stone, we talked to a few florists that provided a range brides can expect certain floral items to cost.

  • Bridal bouquet: $150–$350
  • Bridesmaid bouquet: $65–$125
  • Boutonniere: $24–$45
  • Pin-on corsage: $32–$48
  • Wrist corsage: $48–$65
  • Reception flowers: $75–$250
  • Flower girl petals: $65 per bag
  • Altar flowers: $75–$500

  • Sweetheart table garland: $12–$45 per foot
  • Guest table centerpiece: $75–$400
  • Cake flowers: $25–$150

Sometimes flower budgets can go as high as $75,000. We recommend allotting 10 percent of your overall budget to flowers as a good rule of thumb, adding that a budget of $3,000 is enough to make for a beautiful display. As an average, most brides spend between $6,000 and $11,000 on wedding flowers.
